Praying for the Sami in northern Europe

June 06, 2024

But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine.” -Isaiah 43:1

Welcome to Norway where we’re praying for the Sami, an indigenous people group of about 80 thousand spread across Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Russia. Throughout history the Sami are most famous for centuries of reindeer herding, but as we’ve found on previous prayer travels, many are now coastal fishermen, farmers, foresters, and increasingly have become more active in the Scandinavian professional, academic, and cultural world … including the composer who penned the opening music for the Disney movie, Frozen.

Today, thank God that His Word reaches the Sami in Lapp. Experts tell us that many Sami are nominal in their faith and true, committed Christians are few. Pray the Holy Spirit moves in the hearts of all those who hear God’s Word and draws them to Jesus in ways they understand and will respond to. Ask for a spiritual awakening among the Lapp as God pours out His Spirit and calls each of them to respond by faith to His good news.

Tomorrow we’re praying for those forced to leave their homes and everything they know behind. Join us here on your knees.
