World Prayer Today

Praying for the shalom of Israel

May 19, 2023

I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go into the house of the Lord.” Our feet have been standing within your gates, O Jerusalem! Jerusalem is built as a city that is compact together, where the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord, to the Testimony of Israel, to give thanks to the name of the Lord. For thrones are there for judgment, the thrones of the house of David. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May they prosper who love you. Peace be within your walls ….” -Psalm 122:1-7

Today, our prayer journey takes us to the most spiritually significant country on earth—Israel. Three continents meet here. Three faiths claim their beginnings here through Abraham. Ancient and recent skirmishes scar the landscape. The Bible’s entire story revolves around this land, and especially Jerusalem. History began and will be completed here.

Yet one event over 2000 years ago overshadows all others. That was the weekend Jesus Christ suffered, died, and rose again according to the Scriptures—and physically it happened here. If Jesus is your Savior, then it was in Jerusalem that Jesus physically redeemed your life.

All the more reason to pray for Israel today out of a debt of gratitude to God.

THRU the BIBLE has long prayed for an opportunity to share God’s Word in the land of Israel—whether that be in Hebrew, Arabic, or English. We continually pursue open doors, asking God for the privilege of teaching both the Old Testament and New Testament to those who live in the places where the events of the Bible actually took place.

Pray specifically today for God to lead THRU the BIBLE to the people God has chosen to work with us there. Pray also that we would be ready, working diligently with strategic patience, for the perfect time to take God’s whole Word to the people He loves. May God bring Israel His peace—His shalom—that wholeness of life from being in right relationship with God.

Next week we’re praying through eastern Europe. Join us on Monday in Belarus as we pray for our fellow brothers and sisters there who are persecuted for their faith.
