Praying for revival again in Wales

September 13, 2018

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.-1 Peter 2:9

Welcome to Wales, a republic of the United Kingdom. Wales shares much of its history with its English and Scottish neighbors. We have no report to share from Wales except a glimpse at its spiritual heritage and a prayer that God does it again.

Just a little over 100 years ago, God used a young Welsh man, Evan Roberts, to set Wales on fire with a passion for God. Roberts prayed for revival—in his own life and in his country—for over a decade. In a prayer meeting he cried out to the Lord, “Bend me! Bend me!” and God did.

As a matter of public record, in 1904 sinful habits began to wane in Wales. Taverns closed, gambling businesses lost their trade, and brothels locked their doors. Families were reunited, broken friendships reconciled, profanity ceased, old debts were paid, stolen goods returned, forgiveness for past offenses flowed. Divisions in churches were healed, denominational and class barriers were broken down, feuds were forgotten, discord and enmity were replaced by peace and harmony and unity.

On that first night of Evan Robert’s preaching ministry, 16 teenagers confessed Christ. The next night seven turned to Jesus, and the third night 20 people received Jesus Christ as Lord. Attendance at meetings began to grow and spread to other towns and villages. Names of new Christians were sent to newspapers. After two months, 70,000 had come to Christ. By the end of March 1905, 85,000 and ultimately 100,000 confessed faith in Jesus Christ in Wales.

Would you pray today for that kind of spiritual passion to return to Wales as God’s Word is taught on Thru the Bible? No doubt, a Welsh sister or brother in Christ there is praying for God to do it again in their country—please join them.

Tomorrow we travel to Lebanon to pray for Thru the Bible’s program on Arabic TV.
