Inside a Filipino Prison, God Is Raising Up Disciples

April 09, 2025

By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. – John 15:8

Freedom can come in the most unexpected places—even behind prison walls. That’s what we’re seeing today as we join in prayer for prisoners in the Philippines. God’s Word is changing hearts and destinies, one inmate at a time. The Philippines is home to millions who identify as Christian. Yet challenges like poverty, overcrowded prisons, and religious formalism continue to make true transformation a precious treasure.

Thanks to THRU the BIBLE’s broadcasts in Tagalog, more people are engaging with the truth of Scripture in life-changing ways. From home groups in rural villages to unexpected ministry settings like prisons, God’s Word is penetrating dark places and setting captives free. Today’s powerful story reminds us that the gospel knows no bounds.

Be encouraged by today’s testimony from a Filipino prison:

“There are twelve candidates for baptism right now and there may be more before Sunday. We do baptisms inside the prison and this is our sixth batch of baptisms. We do not baptize until they know the Word of God and the necessity of baptism. When these prisoners get out of this prison, all of them will go home to their own places and serve the Lord and minister there. The prison is just a venue for fishing. In their going out, we will now see the real fruit in their lives. That's why we exert all efforts to develop their spirituality here so that, in their going home, they will serve the Lord.”

What a remarkable testimony of redemption! Even in a place designed for confinement, the truth of God’s Word is bringing liberty and purpose. We praise God for those who are not only coming to faith but are being deeply discipled in the truth. These prisoners are finding their identity in Christ and are being sent out as bold ambassadors of the gospel.

Let’s thank God for the spiritual harvest growing inside prisons and pray for the continued growth and faithfulness of these new believers.
