Pray 2 Peter 3:9 for Liberians

September 16, 2024

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. -2 Peter 3:9

Jonah, David, Peter—the Bible is filled with people who received second, third, and even fourth chances from God. William from Liberia is grateful for their examples and shares his story of God’s unending mercy in His life:

This morning, I listened to Dr. J. Vernon McGee’s sermon ‘An X-Ray of the Cross,’ from my home in West Africa. It was a moving message, and I committed my life to Jesus. This was neither my introduction to Dr. McGee nor my first commitment to Jesus. I first heard your teaching years ago in college. Since then, I’ve started and stopped on the Bible Bus many times. I’ve attended church and also stopped going.

“However, in the last couple of years I somehow resumed listening to you and found Dr. McGee’s teachings still illuminating. I have wanted to write for some time, but this message gave me courage. Thank you for your devotion and encouragement. My three-scores-and-ten is looming, and I believe that a forgiving God is showing me the way, yet again.”

Today as you pray, use 2 Peter 3:9. Thank God for His mercy and longsuffering in William’s life and pray others in Liberia come before Him in repentance, as well. May this be the start of a new life, one in which they wake up with gratitude each day and choose to worship until their very last breath.
