Grab your sword
May 29, 2024
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. -Ephesians 6:14-17
In our study of Ephesians, Dr. J. Vernon McGee is clear: We have an enemy that wants to slaughter us, but God has given us everything we need for the battle—including the sword of the Spirit. God’s Word is quick and powerful and sharp (see Hebrews 4:12). Jesus used the Word of God to meet Satan in His wilderness temptation and, someday, out of Jesus’ mouth will come a sharp two-edged sword in the battle of Armageddon. Luke in Canada is grateful for this sword and the protection it brings each day. He says:
“I am blessed and eternally grateful to God for Dr. McGee and the ministry of Thru the Bible. I have been a passenger on the Bible Bus for a while, and the fellowship only gets better with every passing day. I am a member of the World Prayer Team and pray as you meet, counsel, respond to listener questions, and offer relevant support in so many difficult situations that the power of the Holy Spirit is with you.
“This study has been a tremendous blessing to me as the Holy Spirit has used the sword of the Spirit to illuminate and transform the landscape of my heart and life. I can clearly see the glory of God revealed in the Word, and heaven is always in my heart. I love the teachings of Dr. McGee, and I eagerly await the email and daily testimonies from our fellow listeners. I pray that all of us hopping aboard the Bible Bus are intentional about walking in the Spirit.”
What a great reminder to pick up our swords as we prepare for the battle the devil has for us. (Thank you for sharing, Luke!) Let’s pray with Luke and ask God to give us the confidence to stand firm in our faith, walk in His Spirit, and spend time in His Word each day.
