I tried it all

October 05, 2023

He also brought me up out of a horrible pit,out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. -Psalm 40:2

“I tried it all.” That’s how a fellow Bible Bus passenger named Lucia describes her journey to faith. Here’s more of her story.

“I grew up in Panama where my parents and all our neighbors and friends attended a ritualistic church. Many of our families were very dysfunctional, and religion was used to punish us instead of free us. In college, I attended a bunch of different churches and researched a bunch of different religions. Nothing ever stuck.

“At 28 years of age, I experienced a deep pit of depression. After trying meditation, doing daily sports, therapy, and even yoga, I felt in my soul an emptiness and pain so deep that nothing calmed it. I increased the frequency of exercise and meditation, but the pain and emptiness in my soul deepened even more.

“One day I took the Bible, and I randomly opened it to Esther chapter 4. I read it and I felt better. I did the same thing for the next two weeks, and somewhere in that time God spoke to me. The Holy Spirit must have been working hard, because I began to understand that my emptiness and pain was the absence of Jesus in my life.

“I am now 34 years old, and the love of Christ has changed my life. Jesus came and filled all my emptiness. I love Him, and my greatest desire is one day to put my crown at His feet.

“I am grateful to report God also reached my brothers and my mother. I prayed for a husband (a believer), and now I am married and we have a beautiful 2-year-old girl. I listen to you every day and my whole family does, too. I thank you for the spiritual growth you have given us, and I want you to know I share what I learn with a group at my church. It is my prayer that God blesses you and multiplies these resources so others will be blessed as I have been.”

As God’s Word goes out in Panama today, ask Him to multiply this ministry and open the hearts of all those who hear it. Like Lucia, may the name of Jesus fill the pit of emptiness and ease the pain of all those who are grieving the absence of Him in their lives. May His Word establish their steps and give them the hope of eternal life.
